Many pairs of jeans are thrown away or forgotten simply because their cut, waist rise, or style is no longer in trend, even though the fabric itself is still in great condition. My goal was to step in before that happened and give this denim a truly useful, original second life, keeping standard clothing donation only as a final resort. The challenge was to transform these discarded clothing into a functional everyday object that people would genuinely want to carry, proving that outdated fashion can easily become timeless utility.

The result is a collection of unique, sturdy tote bags made to be much stronger than regular canvas bags. By cutting each pair of jeans into two main panels and rolling the lower-leg fabric into clean, strong handles, the bags are built to last. Keeping the original four pockets makes organizing everyday items simple, giving dedicated spots for a phone, keys, and wallet while showing off the unique look and wash of each pair of jeans.

Denim Selection
Every bag in the project looks different because it directly depends on the jeans I was able to collect. I picked colors and washes that I personally loved, while checking which pairs had enough solid material to be turned into a good bag.

How It’s Made
To make each bag, I split the jeans at the crotch into two panels, squared them up, and stitched them together. Then I used the lower legs to craft the handles and sewed everything into place.

Size & Details
Sized at 35 × 40 cm with 35 cm handles, it hits the sweet spot: big enough to hold a laptop and daily essentials, without ever feeling bulky. The handles make for an easy shoulder carry, and the four original pockets mean you finally stop digging around for five minutes just to find your keys.
